As your source for general dentistry in and around Pleasanton, TX, it's our goal at Brush Country Dental Center to provide you with the dental care needed to give you a healthier smile. We strive to supply a wide range of efficient dental treatments that will help restore any of your teeth that happen to be damaged or decayed. Leaving an untreated tooth can cause oral problems that may affect your overall health, so it's important that you visit our dentists regularly. One of the most basic and effective treatments that we offer if you're suffering from tooth decay is our dental fillings procedure.

What Are Fillings?

A filling is a restorative dentistry treatment that's used to repair tooth decay and damaged surfaces of the teeth. It's appropriately named because it will essentially ‘fill' in the damaged areas of a tooth with filling materials. A filling can be a vital treatment because if the tooth decay is allowed to progress, a tooth may require more serious treatments, such as a root canal or a tooth extraction.

Our Pleasanton Dental Filling Procedure

First, the area where the anesthetic will be injected is dried and a numbing gel is placed on it. It will take a few minutes for the local anesthetic to take effect and begin numbing the area that will be worked on. Your Pleasanton dentist will then use a dental drill to remove the part of your tooth that's decayed. During this time, a dental assistant will be holding a high-volume suction in order to remove any excess water and tooth debris from your mouth. After the damaged part of your tooth is removed, the missing chunk of your tooth will be replaced with a filling to give it a more natural shape and solid structure.

Types of Dental Fillings

The types of fillings that we offer in our Pleasanton dental office include:

  • Porcelain Fillings: These fillings will match the color of your teeth and improve the appearance of your smile. The downsides of this type of filling are that they're more brittle than metal fillings and they can also be expensive.
  • Amalgam (Silver) Fillings: These fillings are relatively inexpensive, resistant to wear, and very durable. However, they're also very noticeable and not that aesthetically pleasing.
  • Gold Fillings: These are the longest-lasting filling materials, though they're often the most expensive and they'll also require multiple visits.

We recommend that you avoid biting into hard objects or foods in order to maintain your fillings for long-term wear. If your dental filling happens to come loose, we recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Pruski to get it fixed as soon as possible.
